Solidarity Statement from Students Run LA + Together in Service

Students Run LA wants our students, families, and school communities to know we see you, we support you, and we are here for you. We remain committed to our mission of empowering students through goal setting, mentorship, and community, even and especially when the world feels uncertain. 

 As our runners learn over the course of a season, community is necessary to any journey. Celebrating with friends in triumph, and holding each other close in difficult moments too.

 We are proud members of Together in Service, a coalition of Los Angeles organizations and non-profits dedicated to making a meaningful impact through volunteering and collaboration. Through this partnership, we are all able to bring our strengths to the table for those around us.

Together in Service Los Angeles Solidarity Statement on Recent Events

The Los Angeles region is home to nearly 10 million people, each with unique experiences, cultures, and stories, but united by a shared sense of community and hope for a better future. Together in Service was created by a coalition of nonpartisan local organizations committed to making a meaningful impact - together.

 The recent scenes shared across social media and the news, of unrest and escalating conflict, have been deeply upsetting. For many Angelenos, the fear and uncertainty sparked by confrontations involving peaceful protestors and immigration enforcement are overwhelming and destabilizing. 

But our response doesn’t have to come from a place of fear. Instead, we choose compassion. We choose community. And we choose action.

Everyone in our community deserves to live in safety, peace, and dignity. Together in Service believes that Los Angeles is at its strongest when we stand united, and that our diversity is our greatest strength.

We are mobilizing to support those most affected and are committed to:

·   Host healing-centered spaces and dialogues, including youth-focused conversations and trauma-informed support circles.

·   Distribute food and essential items through trusted, local community partners.

·   Coordinate with legal aid and immigrant rights organizations to ensure families “Know Your Rights” and are informed, supported, and not alone.

·   Provide clear, safe avenues for civic engagement, volunteerism, and mutual aid through our citywide service network.

 Los Angeles has endured many difficult moments in our history, and we’ve always persevered through our collective resolve, and our unwavering belief in the power of community.

Let’s continue to show up for each other. Not out of fear, but with hope and in service.

Igual como nuestros corredores aprenden durante la temporada de SRLA, la comunidad es fundamental en cualquier camino. Juntos celebramos nuestros logros y mantenernos, uno a otro, en los momentos difíciles.

Mensaje de Solidaridad de Together in Service Sobre los Eventos Recientes

Los Ángeles es el hogar de casi 10 millones de habitantes, cada uno con experiencias, culturas e historias únicas, y unidas por un sentido de comunidad y la esperanza de un futuro mejor. Together in Service fue creado por una coalición de diversas organizaciones locales sin fines de lucro comprometidas a generar un impacto significativo en Los Ángeles.     

Las recientes escenas compartidas en redes sociales y noticias han sido profundamente perturbadoras. Para muchos Angelinos, el temor y la incertidumbre generados por los enfrentamientos entre  personas ejerciendo sus derechos para expresar  sus opiniones y las autoridades de inmigración son desestabilizadores.    

Pero nuestra respuesta no tiene por qué provenir del miedo. En cambio, elegimos la compasión. Elegimos la comunidad. Y elegimos la acción.

Todos en nuestra comunidad merecen vivir con seguridad, paz y dignidad. En Together in Service creemos que Los Ángeles alcanza su máximo potencial cuando nos mantenemos unidos, y que nuestra diversidad es nuestra mayor fortaleza.  

Nos movilizamos para apoyar a los más afectados y nos comprometemos a:

·   Organizar espacios y diálogos centrados en la curación, incluidas conversaciones para los jóvenes y círculos de apoyo informados sobre el trauma.

·   Distribuir alimentos y artículos esenciales a través de organizaciones locales.

·   Coordinar con organizaciones de asistencia legal y de derechos de los inmigrantes para asegurar que las familias “Conozca Sus Derechos” y esten informadas, apoyadas y no sentirse solas.

·   Proporcionar vías claras y seguras para la participación cívica, el voluntariado y la ayuda mutua a través de nuestra red de servicios de toda la ciudad.

Los Ángeles ha pasado muchos momentos difíciles en nuestra historia, siempre hemos perseverado gracias a nuestra determinación colectiva y nuestra inquebrantable creencia en el poder de la comunidad.

Sigamos apoyándonos uno a otro. No por miedo, sino con esperanza y en servicio.
