50 Miles Completed! - SRLA Holiday Break 50 Mile Challenge Update

This winter, SRLA teamed up with LA Rec and Parks to keep Students and Leaders committed to their goals by presenting a Holiday Break 50 Mile Challenge. Runners were challenged to complete 50 training miles between Saturday, December 17th and Sunday, January, 8th.

1,000 runners succeeded in logging 50 miles during their break. In doing so, they have stayed on track with their training for the Los Angeles Marathon in March.

All who took on the challenge have shown incredible commitment and dedication to their goals.

Southeast Middle and Academia Avance teamed up to kick off their Holiday Break 50 Mile Challenge. The groups ran to Christmas Tree Lane in Altadena and enjoyed a festive start to the challenge.

Los Nietos began the SRLA Holiday Break 50 Mile Challenge with 12.5 mile run and a nice break from the rain!

Carson High School SRLA ran to Redondo Beach Pier. They were scheduled for a 15 mile run, but the kids did it the SRLA way and went the extra mile! Pictures by Martin Barajas.

Bravo Medical Magnet took on the hills of Griffith Park and even made it to the top at Griffith Observatory.

Students from Foshay SRLA ran from Exposition and Western to the Santa Monica Pier on their quest to complete 50 miles.

Bell High School SRLA team completed their first run of 2023 including a stop at South Gate Park, where the kids were able to just be kids. What an awesome team!

By the new year, three runners from Yokley Middle School SRLA had already completed the challenge and two runners had even doubled it - running over 100 miles in less than three weeks!

Coach Van Der Plas from Washington Preparatory High School completed most of her 50 mile challenge in ONE WEEKEND. She took on the Dopey Challenge at Disney World and ran 48.6 miles over three days. Way to go Coach Van Der Plas!
